In September 2017 the project had reached the stage where new tiles were shortly to be laid and the tiles had actually arrived. We had invited the village by a newsletter circular to sponsor a tile and 130 applications were received, at £10 a tile (plus, in many cases) Gift Aid). In addition we offered the children at the school the opportunity to decorate and name a tile for no charge, and 70 did so.
The tiles were laid in rows together: the sponsored tiles were numbered and laid in a low course on the south side of the north valley and the unnumbered children’s tiles were laid on the south face in that same valley.
Here we show the tiles that people wrote on (“Scribed”!), and photos of the laid tiles. Hover over the image containing the tile you scribed, and note the tile number that pops up. Then look at the photos of the roof and find your tile! The children’s tiles were not numbered, but they were laid together on the facing roof slope – see the other photo!
